9 Beauty Resolutions To Embrace In The New Year

9 Beauty Resolutions To Embrace In The New Year

We’re on the cusp of a new year (a helpful reminder for anyone lost in the leftover-fuelled limbo between Christmas and the start of Jan), and while we’re hesitant to add to the slew of conversations on social about how to ‘better yourself’ in 2023, we do have an idea, or nine specifically, about how you can put your best face forward from here on out.

You might learn something! You might just be reminded of your lazy habits! Either/or, feel free to thank us for arming you with the hard(ish) facts!

Figure out your skin type

Understanding your skin type is one of the most beneficial things you can do, because if you don’t know your skin type, how do you know what it needs? And therefore pick products that will work? You can’t! It’s high time you figure out what complexion camp you sit in: oily, dry, sensitive, combination, normal. A personalised routine is going to grant you the most amount of glow.

Take your skin to the gym

The one style of fitness Go-To is most enthusiastic about. Face workouts, face cardio, facial fitness, whatever you might call it, this noninvasive treatment has become increasingly popular for its ability to tighten, tone and sculpt facial muscles in mere minutes. Unlike a regular facial, these sessions use high energy kneading movements to stimulate blood circulation, encourage collagen production, and promote cell renewal to visibly lift the face.

Mecca’s flagship store on George Street, Sydney, is set to add this very offering to their growing list of available treatments starting next month (the first of its kind in the southern hemisphere), soooo get booking!

Embrace daily SPF

Sunscreen helps to protect your skin from damaging UVA and UVB rays which can cause sunburn, sunspots, ageing, pigmentation, wrinkles, even skin cancer. (Did you know Australia has the highest rate of skin cancer in the world?*) An SPF, preferably broad spectrum, should be a part of your daily skincare routine. Every single morning. Otherwise, happy and healthy skin is much harder to maintain.

Actually wash those beauty tools

I can sense the eye roll…but by not washing your brushes and sponges regularly, you’re actually making it more of a chore. Using natural soap and water, or one of the many many cleaning solutions now available, wash, squeeze out the excess, and pat with paper towel before allowing to air dry completely. Your makeup applies best with clean brushes and sponges, not to mention the build up of bacteria you’re avoiding, surely that’s motivation enough?

Stop with the squeezing

There are two types of people in this world, those obsessed with popping pimples, and those who gag at the mere thought. Hate to break it to you, but those naysayers are in the right - busting blackheads and whiteheads can lead to scarring, infections, and more congestion because you’re actually pushing bacteria back into the skin at the same time. Leave it to the professionals, a dermatologist, to handle these tricky extractions!

Seek out more sustainable products

Increasingly so, beauty shoppers are seeking out more sustainability from brands and requesting greater transparency in regards to environmental commitments. Rightly so! There is a lot of waste in the industry (packaging, ingredients), and lessening your personal carbon footprint is going to assist in pointing us all in the right direction.

Go-To is working hard to limit our impact by reducing, reusing, and recycling where we can! Read more on our carbon neutral initiative and packaging updates right here

Spend some time caring for your scalp

The literal root of great hair care, our scalp is often left feeling sad and sorry for itself. An afterthought for many a self-proclaimed beauty lover. Gentle exfoliation is key to thicker, healthier, and shinier hair, and a proven way to avoid irritation, dryness, or sensitivity. Try implementing a nourishing scrub to that shower, you know the one, where you shampoo, condition, mask, shave, listen to the entire Bridgerton playlist.

Switch afternoon snacks to beauty boosting bites

We’re all too familiar with the 3pm sugar cravings. But, maybe next time you reach for a Fury Friend or LCM, however tempting, you could gnaw on a slightly healthier version. There’s even a few with added beauty benefits! Take these hazelnut/caramel/cherry Beauty Bites for example, with added collagen, or JS Health Beauty Bars in peanut butter crunch. Mmm the options are not quite endless, but getting there!

H20 just have water (please)

It would be remiss of us not to mention the everyday elixir that contributes so heavily to skin health. And mental health! And physical health! (If only it was flavoured.) Try to get in those 2-3 litres a day, ladies.
