Still Stuck? Here’s Some Smug Skin Haver-er’s

Swipe for some serious skinspiration.

Cleansers and mists are here to refresh and prep the skin for the rest of your daily skincare routines. These two are staples for keeping your skin clean, clear, and hydrated—forming the foundation of your routine, both AM and PM.

The Go-To Collection Of Cleansers And Mists

Every good skincare routine starts with a clean slate—courtesy of a gentle, effective, and thorough cleanse. Or double.

Cleansers get to work removing sweat, grime, makeup, and hot chip residue so that bacteria, irritants, and pollutants don’t build up on your face. As the first step to healthy, happy skin, it’s important you find a cleanser that suits your (very cute) face.

There’s two main cleanser categories to look out for: Oil-based and water-based.

Oil-based cleansers dissolve makeup and sunscreens (or oil-soluble stuff) to leave skin squeaky clean (but still hydrated). According to science, ‘like dissolves like’—meaning oil can break down other oils. Be it: Makeup, sunscreen, excess sebum, your 3PM shine. The high oil content acts as a solvent and binds with those other oils, emulsifying into a milky texture once you add water. Oil and impurities wash away and skin is left clean but not stripped. Nice!

Fancy Face (our very fancy cleansing oil) is packed with antioxidant and fatty acid-rich face oils that nourish while it cleans. Hero ingredients like camellia seed oil, sunflower seed oil, and sweet almond oil leave skin soothed and replenished. A great choice for anyone whose favourite part of the day is taking your makeup off—Fancy Face’s heavenly smell and luxe af feel will level up this step in your routine by approximately 134 percent.

Since oil-based cleansers target oil, water-based cleansers naturally target the water-solubable stuff on your face instead, like sweat and dirt. Since the primary ingredient is (you guessed it!) water, these types of cleansers tend to have a lighter feel that leaves skin clean, soft, and refreshed. Lucky for us picky cleanser-ers, our water-based cleanser comes in two delightful formulas so you can find one that feels just right.

Properly Clean is our mousse cleanser, stacked with powerful but non-irritating ingredients like willow bark extract. Best of all, Properly Clean’s sudsy dream of a texture comes from its dinky pump mechanism (not through soapy ingredients). A cloud of Properly Clean’s does just what it says it does: Cleans properly. Without stripping or drying.

Juicy Gel has a delicious jelly-like texture. Ultra-soothing and soap-free, this cleanser is perfect for sensitive faces or seriously pissed off skin. Cucumber, lotus root, and aloe vera help to cleanse, calm, and reset. Use Juicy Gel if your skin veers on the side of dry, combination, or needing a hit of suppleness.

We’ve even gone ahead and made you a skincare routine quiz so you can find the right cleanser for you.

The Importance Of Cleansing And Hydration

Cleansing is one of those non-negotiable steps in your skincare routine. Like SPF or a good night's sleep.

Every day, every face gets grubby. Yep, even yours.

Dirt, oil, unwanted debris, and of course, dead skin cells accumulate on your face, whether it’s a day at work or lazing in bed. When you don’t wash your face once a day (at the very least!), all that debris over your face can clog pores, cause irritation, and lead to breakouts.

While cleansing is an essential, mists fall into the nice-to-have category. (But once you try one, they’ll likely switch into essentials.) Packed with a bunch of hydrating ingredients and powered by a refreshing misting mechanism, mists provide an immediate hit of hydration.

Our mist (Prep Step) has been formulated as an in-betweener product. Meaning it’s best used in-between the regular steps in your skincare routine. Slip this one into your routine before serums, masking, exfoliants, oils, and moisturiser, sealing in the hydration with a follow-on product.

How To Use Cleansers & Mists For Maximum Results

In the morning, reach for a water-soluble cleanser like Properly Clean or Juicy Gel. Squirt into the palm of your hand and apply to damp skin. Gently rub across your face to refresh skin and remove any bacteria, grime, leftover skin, and drool. Continue on with the rest of your routine—using Prep Step before serums, masking, exfoliants, oils, and moisturiser to help seal in hydration.

In the PM, start your skincare routine with an oil-soluble cleanser (ahem like Fancy Face). An oil-based cleanser is mighty enough to take on the day. Rub Fancy Face into the skin to dissolve makeup and SPF. Then, move onto Juicy Gel or Properly Clean. Follow up with your regular routine, using Prep Step before serums, masking, exfoliants, oils, and moisturiser for a hit of hydration.

What’s The Difference Between A Cleanser And A Mist?

A cleanser is the vital first step in your skincare routine whereas a mist is an in-between product to use in between your skincare steps.

Consider cleanser a skincare essential and mist a very-nice-to-have product.

How Do I Know Which Cleanser Is Right For My Skin Type?

Lucky for you, we’ve categorised our cleansers per skin type (and even made you a quiz) to help you decide.

Oil-/ acne-prone skin should reach for a foam or gel cleanser that’s powered by skin-balancing ingredients (ahem like willow bark extract). Dry, dehydrated skin should go for gels and creams to gently clean the skin without running the risk of disrupting your skin’s natural oils.

Can I Use A Face Mist Instead Of A Moisturiser?

A face mist does provide hydration, but it can’t replace moisturiser. As an in-between product, mists work best when it’s maximising the performance of the rest of your skincare versus replacing it.

Moisturisers play the very important role of creating a protective barrier between your skin and the world to trap in moisture and prevent water loss, courtesy of humectants and emollients. Mists, and their quick-absorbing effect, just can’t quite do this type of hydration heavy lifting.

In the case that moisturisers just feel too heavy or too much for your skin, look out for a light gel formula.

Are These Products Safe For Sensitive Skin?

For your cleansing step, sensitive skin-havers should reach for Fancy Face and Juicy Gel. Both have been formulated to gently clean without stripping or irritating the skin.

Our face mist, Prep Step and its hydrating and calming-effect is perfect for sensitive skin types.

As always: We recommend patch testing on your forearm before jumping in the deep end with products.

Can I Use A Mist Throughout The Day?

You can but because Prep Step contains hyaluronic acid, we recommend to always follow on with something (e.g. a moisturiser or face oil) to lock in the hydration.

Will The Cleansers Remove Sunscreen And Makeup?

Yes. But not all cleansers will be as effective as others. Makeup and SPF are best taken off the skin by oil-based cleansers.

Do Go-To Cleanser And Mist Products Contain Artificial Fragrances?

None of Go-To’s cleansers and mist products contain artificial fragrances. They do, however, contain natural fragrance. For more info, try here.

How Do I Layer A Go-To Cleanser And Mist In My Skincare Routine?

Cleansing is the first step of any good skincare routine. Take the day off with an oil-based cleanser and follow up with a water-based cleanser. Then, move onto exfoliating, treating, and nourishing steps—using Prep Step in-between.

Are Go-To Cleansers And Mists Pregnancy-Safe?

Yes, all Go-To cleansers and mists are pregnancy-safe.
